Way back in 1997, via “The Fat of the Land,” the Prodigy laid the groundwork for an electronic takeover of pop music — a takeover that, it should be noted, never took place. Seven years of false starts later, the Prodigy’s Liam Howlett returns with “Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned,” whereby he ups the ante on the grimy electro-sleaze of “Fat of the Land,” but fails to capture the sense of daring that made it so revelatory. But it’s still a kick — witness Natural Born Killer Juliette Lewis going all Keith Flint on “Spitfire” and “Hot Ride,” and check out “Medusa’s Path” and “Action Radar” before they show up in Hollywood’s next crop of slow-mo action sequences. It’s not the torchbearer its predecessor was, but “Always Outnumbered” proves the Prodigy still has the goods to get the party — not to mention the fire — started.
